The Mountain

A bit of a brain dump. On mountains, synchronicity, and the part of the climb where nobody talks.

When Miles and I first re entered each other’s lives, it was an incredibly magical and almost hazy chapter of my life. A few weeks were a blur of being wrapped up in the divine timing of it all. We had the same dream from different perspectives, we saw fairies in the frozen solid pond in the water, Miles’ car almost drove itself into a swamp; there were coincidences and synchronicities happening a million times a day. It was surreal and it was fleeting. So the memories come back in clusters and they are usually triggered by somewhere we go on a trip.

Around the first week of seeing one another, I had a dream that we were riding a magic carpet high up in the mountains. It was the most peaceful and beautiful place I had ever seen. At around 6 months into our relationship our first stop on a road trip was to West Virginia. And I saw the mountains again. It was the EXACT same mountain I saw in my dream. It was a moment that brought me to tears and rooted me into my humanness.

Mountains have always been magical to me. I’ve loved to hike since high school and I grew up in a town on top of a mountain. But the symbol of the mountains is greater than just the beauty of nature, and this recent weekend in the Catskills has reminded me. While driving through winding roads in a foggy, thunderstorm-brewin Woodstock, New York, I was forced to come to a stop to look at the mountain. I tried to take a picture and a video and neither of them saved to my phone, naturally. So you’ll have to take my word for it when I say that it reminded me of just how small I am, in the most comforting way possible.

This trip I’m on, it’s because I feel another pivot coming, one more serious than any that has come before. I feel the energy of my approaching Saturn return swirling, I feel the energy of Jupiter in Leo bringing a newfound level of confidence and I see my life offering me a choice to step into the role of “the Woman Who Absolutely Can and Will.”

I’ve been feeling called to explore the concept of the Mountain for some time now. When I read A Court of Silver Flames, the concept of the mountain of your mind was so profound for me. I think it was because I have a destiny to always be aiming so high, and rarely looking back for long to appreciate my own climb. I’ve written poems from the perspective of a mountain, I’m feeling called to getting an image of one tattooed on my body, it’s really enrapturing me. When I started thinking about the elements of our next home, I saw a strong vision of a house on top of a mountain. So obviously, it is time to start researching the spiritual symbolism of mountains.

Today I made the connection between the feeling that mountains bring and a walk through the cemetery. Because the vastness of them both reminds us of how small we are.

If life is a climb, then right now I’m at that part of the hike when if you’re with your friends, you’re all silent and locked in. It’s maybe a littleeee steeper than we expected, and there’s no turning back. We’re white knuckling it and not able to see ahead to when the trail gets calmer. And yet, I still believe to my core that every place I end up is exactly where I’m meant to. I’m still really glad I chose this trail.
